December 2019 Newsletter

[OW2 Newsletter - November 2019 - From the OW2 Management Office]

Dear OW2 Members, dear All,

Last month, I was invited by the European Commission to take part in "Workshop about the future of Open Source Software and Open Source Hardware". Other organisations on the plenary panel included Open Forum Europe, SUSE and Red Hat. This invitation is a recognition of the prominent position OW2 has achieved as a EU-based open source organisation. Also the occasion to pass key messages. I highlighted the role of open source software as a vehicle for collaborative innovation, and identified five directions for a relevant OSS public policy at the European level: 1- Redirect subsidies and adapt grant processes, 2- Reduce uncertainty, simplify compliance, 3- Focus on supply push – demand pull interaction, 4- Shift the status of OSS from unorthodox to normal, and 5- Develop EU OSS incubation programme. Check out the details here.

This year again, OW2 is everywhere at the Paris Open Source Summit, the flagship event of the European open source community. In addition to our community booth with Lutece, Orange, ReachOut and DECODER, eight members of the OW2 community will exhibit on their own booths: Alter way, BlueMind, Capgemini, FusionDirectory, Inria, Microsoft, Worteks and Xwiki. OW2 is also organising the English-speaking track with four sessions and more than 20 speakers from nine countries. And if you're planning to come, do not miss our free beer party!

On another note, we are pleased to welcome new Corporate member Worteks who joins us to support OW2 projects LemonLDAP:NG and LSC, a new project in our code base but one we used a couple of years ago when we migrated our infrastructure.

Please note the OW2con’20 Call For Presentation is open, check it out!

Thank you for your support and… Season's greetings to all!

Cedric Thomas
