OW2 New Big Data Initiative
The BI initiative is becoming the OW2 Big Data Initiative. OW2 initiatives now cover a broader scope of emerging IT technologies: Cloud, Big Data and Future Internet. The Big Data initiative roadmap and more details to come soon in January. Stay tuned!
Dear OW2 Members, dear All,
First and foremost, I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very happy, peaceful and prosperous 2014.
Looking back, 2013 was a year of great contrasts. While it saw OW2's obvious progress in the cloud computing arena and the European Commission ecosystem, it was a year of transition as far as our membership and code base are concerned.
Our fundamentals are good: OW2 is enjoying more visibility and recognition than ever before. Our quality program, SQuAT, is a key differentiator; we have a well-defined value proposal to support large and complex collaborative projects; our cloud platform, ow2stack, is operational; and our initiatives – Open Source Cloudware initiative, OSCi, Future Internet Software and Services initiative, FISSi, and the newly rebranded BI & Big Data initiative – are properly aligned with key market trends.
Because of these unique community assets, we have high expectations in terms of membership and code base renewal for 2014. As we begin the new year, our priority now is to leverage our assets into a new service platform to support our corporate members' businesses. But, because OW2 remains a non-profit organization with limited resources, nothing can happen without active participation and contribution from our members.
I take this occasion to also express my personal gratitude to all in the Management Office for their dedication and efforts. I would also like to thank our board members and our new President Gabriele Ruffatti for their on-going support and guidance throughout 2013.
Wishing you once again happiness and success for 2014.
Cedric Thomas
