Membership Definition
Associate Organizations:
Associate Organizations are entities, such as standards organizations, research institutions, academic institutions, open source organizations, publishing organizations and other organization types, which wish to support the aims and objectives of OW2. Please note that Associate Organization is not a membership category.
Individual Membership:
Individual Members include individuals such as, without limitation, free-lancers, students, and technology enthusiasts who meet the requirements of an Individual Member as set forth in Appendix Four of the Membership Agreement.
Corporate Membership:
Corporate Members are legal entities that wish to contribute to the code development activities of the Consortium, to participate in the planning and management of the Consortium's technology development process, and to facilitate the use and acceptance of the Consortium's technology. Corporate Members are entities which meet the requirements of a Corporate Member as set forth in Appendix Four of the Membership Agreement.
Strategic Membership:
Strategic Members are legal entities which stand out to provide significant resources to support the Consortium's objectives and wish to play an active role both in setting the direction of the Consortium code development activities and facilitating the use and acceptance of the Consortium's technology. Strategic Members commit to remain members for a minimum of three (3) consecutive years. Strategic Members are legal entities which comply with the Strategic Membership Conditions set forth in Appendix Four of the Membership Agreement.

Based in the definition by the European Commission, micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises are defined according to their staff headcount and turnover or annual balance-sheet total:
(1): A large enterprise is defined as an enterprise which employs 500 or more persons and whose annual turnover is over EUR 100 million or whose annual balance-sheet total is over EUR 90 million.
(1): A medium-sized enterprise is defined as an enterprise which employs fewer than 500 persons (EC says 250) and whose annual turnover does not exceed EUR 100 million (EC says 50) or whose annual balance-sheet total does not exceed EUR 90 million (EC says 43).
(1): A small enterprise is defined as an enterprise which employs fewer than 50 persons and whose annual turnover and/or annual balance sheet total does not exceed EUR 10 million.
(1): A micro enterprise is defined as an enterprise which employs fewer than 10 persons and whose annual turnover and/or annual balance sheet total does not exceed EUR 2 million.
(2): An Academia member is a multi-department education and research organisation, such as a research institute or a university, with employment in the 100s or 1000s.
(2): We define an Academic Research Laboratory as an organization which has a small number of members (in the range of 10s) and has an identity within its broad academic institution (it must have a name).
(3): Purchasing Power Parity Rules, as defined by the World Bank, are applied to members having joined OW2 before December 31st, 2012 from developing countries.
