Dear OW2 Members, dear All,
A year ago, OW2 was at the crossroads. I am now pleased to be able to report that OW2's prospects are the best ever! May 2015 be the best year yet for us all!
Our fundamentals have always been good and, during 2014, thanks to the continuous efforts and dedication of the OW2 Management Office, whom I thank here, and the support of our members, we managed to set the stage for ambitious perspectives. First of all it was a pleasure to welcome the new members who joined our community, particularly our new strategic member Institut Mines Telecom, but also City of Paris, TIS Innovation Park and ZHAW-ICCLabs. We registered six new projects: erOCCI, MobIoT, Iconnect, Nursery, hammr, and LUTECE, launched the Big Data initiative and started working on our Privacy/Security initiative. We partnered with our friends at OpenStack for our annual conference. We promoted Open Source with the European Commission. With our members and partners, we won three new collaborative projects that are starting just as we publish this newsletter (no website yet). No doubt you will hear more about them soon: AppHub will help us launch the OW2 appstore for the promotion of our projects and members, CHOReVOLUTION will be the backbone of our Future Internet initiative and OCCIware will drive our interoperability efforts within our Open Source Cloudware initiative. And there is more. In 2015 we will upgrade our technical infrastructure with a new forge and new services, take our quality program to the next level thanks to the RISCOSS collaborative project, and clarify our code base to make it more attractive.
Position opening: With such a program ahead it won't come as a surprise that we need more people power. Fortunately OW2 is now in a position to recruit a Chief Technology Officer. Check out the job description here. This is a high-visibility position for an experienced community-oriented developer. If you think you fit the bill we'd like to hear from you. Otherwise, we would be grateful if you could pass the word around.
I'm pleased to end this newsletter by announcing that Alter Way, a leading provider and operator of open-source-based professional services and long-time supporter of OW2 is the first corporate member to join our community in 2015. We look forward to working with Alter Way.
A couple of housekeeping notes: the OW2 board and chairperson elections will be held between February 19 and April 9 and our General Assembly on April 2, in Paris. Save the dates.
All the team at OW2 wish you and your families a very happy and successful new year and we look forward to working with you in 2015!
Cedric Thomas
