Dear OW2 Members, dear All,
Thanks to cutting edge open source software readily available to them, SMEs are able to compete against large companies by delivering business solutions at a competitive price. Assembling proprietary software products to deliver comparable solutions can cost up to ten times more and also incur significant overheads in contract negotiation. We are convinced that, by making state-of-the-art components for enterprise information systems freely available, OW2's code base contributes to a friction-less, service-oriented market where open source software SMEs can thrive as they can avoid the constraints inherent to dominant proprietary software vendors and systems integrators.
On September 12th, a plenary session of the European Parliament voted in favour of the new Copyright Directive, with a limited exclusion of “open source software developing platforms”. The process has now entered a new phase of negotiations. It is not clear exactly how safe a platform such as OW2 is and our rights are now in the hands of the EU governments.
OW2 is now in a position to recruit its next Chief Technology Officer, check out the job description. This is a high-visibility position for an experienced community-oriented developer. If you think you fit the bill we'd love to hear from you. Otherwise, we would be grateful if you could pass the word around.

- ASM: the 7.0 beta release offers a bytecode manipulation library and supports Java 11. More.
- Bonita: the application platform release 7.8.0 alpha 2 is now available. More.
- Hammr: the new 3.8.7 release is out with hammr-release.sh script now working with the new pypi.org 301 redirection. More.
- Sympa: the Sympa 6.2.36 is the latest stable version of Sympa 6.2 with authentication by target user now required to subscribe/unsubscribe multiple users. More.
- XWiki: the 10.8 release brings new tab in the user profile to display the groups a user is part of, pages auto-suggestions and an improved startup speed on Tomcat. More.

Applications for the "Acteurs du Libre" contest organized and supported by Associate Organizations CNLL and Adullact are open until November 9. The awards ceremony will take place at Paris Open Source Summit.
