[OW2 Newsletter - March 2024 - From the OW2 Management Office] Dear OW2 Members, dear All, The spring comes, with its good and bad news: On the dark side, the Foundation for Public Code, our partner founding the OSPO Alliance, shuts down its EU office (where they originated from), laying off the team, and will try to keep its US office alive. The reason? Sustainability. Here in Europe, people appreciate commons, but few commit to fund them. Now who's next? EU is the place where 71% of FOSS developers in the world live: sovereignty requires to keep our foundations alive, or in the end, only the Linux Foundation will remain to tell us from overseas how we should do open source. And this is cheap... but not free. On the bright side, OW2 has some good news: a new member, Adaltas (open source Big Data experts), joined us! Another member, Linagora, signed a strategic agreement with CNRS, the most prominent French research institute, to innovate on AI and reinforce the OpenLLM France Consortium for a sovereign and open source AI. So the community rocks! We also have a new Board of Directors, freshly elected. Some Directors renewed their seats, but we welcome three newcomers: Davide Dalle Carbonare from Engineering (Italy), Vincent Untz from Centreon (France), and to represent individuals, Amani Jebali from Tunisia. Again 4 countries on Board! And don't forget our coming events, a free and friendly way to join us: AlpOSS, March 21 at the City Hall of Echirolles, near Grenoble, the place OW2 originated from in South-East France. And, of course, OW2Con'24 in Paris (June 11/12). For those who don't have the opportunity to travel, you may also join online our coming open source webinar series, starting March 28: program unveiled soon, stay tuned. Thanking you so much for your ongoing support, Pierre-Yves Gibello PS: Project leaders: Please use your project dashboard to publish your updates. Your news will appear on our Project Marketplace home page and in this newsletter.
